To the Editor:

Regarding your review of “Who Killed Daniel Pearl?” by Bernard-Henri Levy (Sept. 28, “Daniel in the Den of Lions”): We are sorry to see such an all-dismissive treatment of a book that raises serious questions about Pakistan and about the murder of our son Daniel. These questions include the degree of involvement of Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence, the role of anti-Semitism and passionate anti-Americanism and, of course, the difficulty of containing nuclear technology in a society terrorized by Al Qaeda sympathizers.

These questions need to be addressed, not dismissed. While we do not agree with all of Levy’s conclusions and all his methods of presentation, we do applaud his courage, sincerity and the personal risk he took in tracing Daniel’s footsteps and producing the first investigative book on the murder of our son.

We also admire Levy’s insight in illuminating the depth of the clash between the ideology that took Daniel’s life and the civilized society, in both the East and the West, that Daniel has come to symbolize.
