I have just returned from Sumy, Ukraine. Marc Roussel and I last week filmed this beautiful and great city—250,000 inhabitants before the war, almost the same number today, because the residents haven’t left. We saw women at the market, students at the university library, children at kindergarten, passersby savoring the first joys of spring, the Catholic Church of the Annunciation, the three Orthodox churches. I loved this city. I loved that it stood proud and brave. I admired its air of a small capital.
